Savage political satire
DMZ continues to impress and improve.
The third book focuses on Matt investigating the shadowy Trustwell corporation who have control of the buiding contracts for the major works in the DMZ (Empire State Building, Ground Zero etc). He manages to find a way into the organisation and discovers a whole underground movement of sponsored terrorism. As he is deep undergound don't expect to see Zee or anyone else really. Do expect to see Matt lose some of his own identity and become desesitised to the people around him.
This story is a savage critique of American foreign policy, rebuilding work in Iraq, American Mercenary involvement in state security. All in all DMZ continues to be the best near future fiction that is out there.
The twists and turns drag you deep into the story.
If you buy just one DMZ book make it this one to give you a real flavour of the quality of writing.
I have all of the volumes and each one reveals more of the DMZ world and adds to the richness of the story.
I am very selective of what graphic novels I buy and don't just stick with one series for the sake of it. My main priority is always who the author is or the lead person controlling the story. DMZ is on par with The Wire and NYPD for it's gritty atmosphere and realism.
