Explores the history of the Welsh football hooligan and goes deep into the clashes, fights and rivalries that exist between the Welsh clubs. Marsh talks to fans from Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham who reveal in their own words the extent of the hatred passed down over four decades. Not just another book on the well-trodden path of football hooligan memoirs, The Trouble with Taffies is an eye-opening account of the history of a major social problem.

Bit disappointing
I have to say I am little bit disappointed with this book, I have followed Cardiff City since the 80's, and whilst not a hooligan I did get accidently get caught up in a few incidents, as you could not avoid to in those days.
At least all the "Crews" are given a mention, although with a large Cardiff tint, the stories are too much of a "we did this, they did that" varity, which gets a bit repetitive after a while.
There are two excellent storys, one about Man Utd's invasion of Cardiff in the early 70's and the Welsh away fans story.
I found the Soul Crew book far more professionally written and structured
Disappointing Read
I was looking forward to reading this after some of the reviews i had seen. Unfortunately it turned out to be a big disappointment. Firstly i thought the content was very poor and not well written. I thought the book was to get accounts from fans of different teams but i noticed it generally came back to Cardiff. This was the reason Swansea fans had very little say in this book. The author seemed to try to be unbiased but his pro-cardiff, anti-swansea mentality was so transparent it was embarrassing. A book like this needs to be written by a genuine neutral who has got no agenda about oneupmanship.
There was some interesting stuff in the book regarding the Klan in Caerau, Maesteg and the welsh fans from around mid wales. These were both interesting articles but the rest of the book was a big disappointment.
Trouble with the Taffies
A good book with interesting insight however some facts are incorect eg Newport County managed by Peter Beadle during the Swansea FA Cup game. Alot of "we done 'em but they probably wouldn't agree" when alot of other books seem more to admit when they got done. Could have done with a few more eye witness accounts
On the whole though a great read - Read inside a week!!
