Good, but for the omissions4
DK guides are impressive at first glance notably for the high picture content and inclusion of useful illustrated maps and guides. On occasions they've been picked up for inaccurate or outdated information, but there was little by way of errors we could pick out of the Croatian guide. Restaurant recommendations seemed pretty good.

If I had any criticism, it would be that several excellent places in Istria were entirely omitted, for no obvious reason. For example, the stunningly beautiful hill town of Groznjan, also home to many art galleries and a music festival, is accorded a brief entry that fails to do it justice, while other lovely hill towns fail to warrant a single mention.

The worst travel book I've ever bought. 1
A truly dreadful guide. I shouldn't wonder if the author has never set foot in Croatia and wouldn't be at all surprised if they dug up all their useless and utterly dull information using google searches. I have thrown my copy in the bin rather than give it to a charity shop, because that would not have been charitable.

Truly woeful1
I bought this in the departure lounge drawn by the idea of seeing pictures of the places covered, but spent most of my holiday swearing at it for its enormous failings. The writing reads more like a historical shopping list than a guide, there is no insight or advice, shamefully small amounts of space given to some of the key sights and insufficient and poor quality maps. Even the historical content is excruciatingly poorly written, with sentences along the lines of "Following this there was another war which the Romans won" not being uncommon. It is, however, excellent for killing wasps, warranting its one star.
