Customer Reviews
Really super
This series about the Wainwright walks is just super. Julia Bradbury is of course an outstanding presenter. Everything looks so natural and well produced. The back ground history is very interesting. I liked the over head shots of the walk also.
A super DVD set!
Absolutely stunning, the perfect gift for any walker or climber!
As a keen walker myself I had to get myself a copy of this DVD, and I'm very glad I did. Alfred Wainwright, for those that don't know, was a keen walker and he produced pictorial guides of all the fells in the Lake District. His attention to detail was what made these guides so popular, and they are still in regular use today. Presenter Julia Bradbury follows "A.W's" advice on six of these walks, and follows the routes he recommended, or as least as closely as possible, as some are over 50 years old and may have changed somewhat. In Series 2 of Wainwright Walks, Julia explores Helvellyn, Catbells, Crinkle Crags and Bowfell, Helm Crag, High Street and Pillar, all truly stunning fells in the area.
This may sound a little boring to the average person. However, the way the series is filmed makes it truly fascinating. There is lots of stunning aerial footage, to help you get an idea of the surrounding area. Then the camera follows the route Julia will be taking from above. In each episode, as much history as possible is given, for example on the fell High Street, the reason it has its name is because a Roman road used to run along the top of it. All of this adds to the atmosphere, and for me in particular, it's made me desperately want to visit the Lake District and experience these walks for myself.
I think anybody with an interest in walking will enjoy this DVD. Even if you've visited some of these areas or done some of these climbs already, the footage will probably give you nice happy memories and probably inspire you to do it all over again! For me, though, it's made me want to see some of those awe-inspiring views for myself, so I'll be making plans to do so! A great series and I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for others.
