A modern miracle4
United Airlines flight 232 crashed on July 19, 1989, at just after 4pm Central Standard Time. The aircraft had suffered a catastrophic uncontained failure of the number 2 tail mounted engine, and had lost all hydraulic systems, rendering the aircraft practically unflyable. Yet the crew managed to keep the aircraft in the air for 44 minutes before crash landing at Sioux Gateway Airport, in Sioux City, Iowa. A film crew were at the airport at the time the plane crashed, and videotaped the crash. If you have seen the crash, you will wonder, as I have done many times, how anyone could have survived.

184 people survived the crash of UAL 232, one of them being Joe Trombello, who encapsulates his story from the day before the crash to the months afterwards in this fascinating book. Written in the first person, by a first time author, it is an interesting read, and tells exactly how the author felt and what he did in the minutes before the airplane crashed.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in aviation, aviation safety, or anyone who enjoys a really good true story.
