Synopsis
Three South Yorkshire friends, all on the cusp of 40, fall pregnant at the same time following a visit to an ancient fertility symbol. For Helen, it's a dream come true, although her husband is not as thrilled about it as she had hoped. Not only wrestling with painful ghosts of the past, Helen has to deal with the fact that her outwardly perfect marriage is crumbling before her eyes. For Janey, it is an unmitigated disaster as she has just been offered the career break of a life-time. And she has no idea either how it could possibly have happened, seeing as she and her ecstatic husband George were always so careful over contraception. For Elizabeth, it is mind-numbing, because she knows people like her shouldn't have children. Damaged by her dysfunctional childhood and emotionally lost, she not only has to contend with carrying a child she doubts she can ever love, but she also has to deal with the return to her life of a man whose love she must deny herself. Heart-warming, up-lifting, tear-jerking and lovely, THE YORKSHIRE PUDDING CLUB is the story of how three women find themselves empowered by unexpected pregnancy.

Customer Reviews
A wonderful book
I absolutely loved this book. I picked it up as an 'extra' book for my holiday and am so glad I did. I have never been pregnant but the stories made me laugh, made me sad and made me shout at the characters to sort their lives out. Thrilled this author has another book for me to read (Birds and Bees)
Perfect for those in the Pudding Club!
I bought this book as I am currently pregnant with my first child and am therefore firmly ensconced in 'babyland' and even my fiction has to have some kind of baby theme right now. This book was the kind of tale that leves you with a warm fuzzy glow at the end of it, you really care about the characters and what becomes of them. I would highly relcommend to anyone looking for a touching, funny and realistic tale of three very different women finding themselves (albeit slightly unwillingly at first) on the road to motherhood. To be honest, it made me wish I had a Pudding Club of my own, unfortunately none of my friends could be persuaded to take the leap with me. Next time I will drag them to an ancient fertility symbol!
I very much look forward to Milly's next book, not least because it is set in the Highlands, where my lovely husband comes from.
Real people in real situations
I loved this book, unreservedly. It's tale of three Yorkshire women was heart-warming, gritty and very funny. Milly Johnson is obviously a talent to watch, a great story-teller writing about real people in real situations, and what's more with no irritating north London characters called Candida [after an irritating yeast infection] or Rupert, but set in God's Own County, in the fabulous town of Barnsley.
By the way I'm a bloke who normally reads high body-count crime novels. Could this be the beginning of a new addiction.
