Product Description

Classical singing training is no longer relevant for the theatre performer today. So how does an actor train his singing voice? Now in its second edition, this practical handbook takes the reader through a step-by-step training programme relevant to the modern singing actor and dancer. A variety of contemporary voice qualities including belting and twang are explained, with exercises for each topic.

Customer Reviews

An investment, and not just for beginners!5
I first came accross this book whilst studying for my BA(Hons) in Musical Theatre, and it has been a valuable point of reference for me. As a singer, I found that this book clearly outlines ways to check your technique is perfect and also explains the "science" behind singing: what is actually happening to your vocal folds when you sing. It was not only helpful but also fascinating to discover what the body does in order to make a beautiful sound.

A very good investment, not only for actors wishing to build singing skills but also for singers who want to explore their art further.

A great insite into the studies of Jo Estill's Voice Craft5
Gillyanne Kayes Book looks at the work of Jo Estill who has devoted her life to finding out how the voice works. This book gives you an indepth look at the anatomy of the voice and how to use it to help you sing.

It also provides you with easy to follow examples of how you can put into practice the anatomy that you have learnt. I have studied Classical voice before moving onto looking at Voice Craft. Now I have a book that can make sense all of the excercise I have been taught in the past and why it is important to do them correctly.

VoiceCraft is used in many West End shows now and is considered to be one of the best vocal studies that you can do. VoiceCraft can only be taught by Licenced practitioners.

This book is the best way to get an indepth look at this technique of singing. I Highly recommend anyone who is looking at singing professionally or even to a very high amater standed, buying this book!

very useful book for experienced singers4
This book is very useful for anyone wanting to sing in musical theatre - it is very technical so you have to work through it slowly but it is worthwhile. If you are a beginner I would also recommend seeing a singing teacher trained in voice craft.
