An absolute must
A real treat. Clear, incisive, broad-based approach to the distinct but interconnected acts of singing and teaching, with factual information on (for example) anatomy and function, the teaching relationship, posture and breath, interspersed with well chosen case studies, written by probably the most well-respected singing teacher in Britain and quite possibly further afield. A modern approach which offers new insights into singing traditions, backed up with an excellent section of exercises, all of which I have used and which work. Lessons with Janice are hard to come by - she has a long list of professionals on her books. Not as good as a lesson, but the next best thing. If you only buy one book on singing this year, this should be it. Highly recommended.
A lesson you can afford.
This book gives you all the information that one would get from a lesson from one of the best teachers I know - she is my current teacher - but since lessons are expensive, one uses the book as a Janice-away-from-Janice when in need. Also, it is half the price of one lesson and that is a one-off payment! It says exactly what Janice speaks to you about in a lesson. Simply a must.
Excellent read
There's a little bit of everything in this book- it's a brilliant. It's written by a woman who is held in high esteem amongst singers and teachers alike. It covers anatomy and physiology and the practical application of vocal techniques. Although it's written for classical singers some of the dysfunctional vocal habits discussed are as applicable to contemporary singers as they are to classical.
This book is probably more suited to those individuals who already have an understanding of the mechanics of the voice.
