Amazing5
I have been playing bass for about 5 years. Before i got this book i felt i reached a dead end in the bass, nothing really impressed me anymore until my music teacher for A-level recommended me this book, so i bought it, and now im doing #9 for my A-level performance piece its.... bloody hard but im loveing it! Its improving my technique soo quickly.
Some of these pieces are grade 8, so if you learn some of them, you are technically capable of doing a grade 8 exam!!!

Note bashing?3
The book is really quite useful and it has got both musical transcription and Tab for non readers. The cd is pretty dire though and the playing is mechanical and kills the creativity and intricacy of JS Bachs music. Just has the feel of musical note bashing - apologies to the musician who is proabably a pretty competent session player , but its pretty clear that he just doesnt 'get' Bach!

There is some value in having the cd if you want to listen to the correct notes as a check to your reading and to get a sense of the timing of the notes of the music , however in terms of the phrasing , dynamics, interpretation and understanding of the music, you would be better off downloading performances of the peices from the web from masters like classical musicians John Williams, Julian Bream or Jaqueline Du Pre .

That would be a really punchy combination.....get the notes from the book, check that you have them in the right order by listening to the CD but then learn to play Bach from musicians who have Back dialled in .

Bach was the first Jazz improviser - his music is way way more interesting than you get from the CD !
