Manufacturer's Description
Enjoy amazing DVD playback from the single-disc, progressive scan Sony DVP-NS76H multi-format player, which up-scales video to high-definition (1080i/780p) resolution and transmits high quality audio through a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). It's compatible with DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and CD-R/RW disc formats as well as MP3 audio and JPEG image formats. For those that like to encode their own home-movies, the DVP-NS76H will also support playback of the popular DivX video format, giving the user high-quality video playback in compact file sizes.
The fast/slow playback with sound and AV Sync feature allows for the alignment of the audio track to match the video through some Televisions that have video buffers or delays. The Precision Drive 3 System compensates for flawed and warped discs by moving the lens-instead of the entire optical block for faster and more accurate error correction. Other features include virtual surround sound, a 12-bit video DAC (digital to analogue converter) with 12 bit/108MHz processing, fast/slow playback with sound and AV Sync, and Precision Cinema Progressive technology.
Tech Talk;HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). This is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV or monitor.
Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive. This feature detects image changes at the pixel level versus other types that detect image changes at the scan line level. Separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image to achieve sharper backgrounds and moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

EXCELLENT
This player is just amazing, Films which you know off by heart you'll be thinking hey I didn't notice that before, You can see everything strands of hair, cracks in the wall, reflections in glass, wrinkles, smoke far off in the distance, loads that just don't show up on normal televisions.
It works by guessing the gaps so it's not proper high definition I know but I think it's absolutly great, Has all the options you need to tweak the picture and sound. Also I didn't expect much on the divx side but it just happily excepts everything I've thrown at it so far.
The connections I think there is everything you can think of at the back of the unit so whichever you choose to use is there. I can't think of anything bad to say about this player, the layer change is quick, quality of the picture is exactly what a high definition needs.
Absolutly 10/10
Best value for money DVD player around
To all those that are considering buying the next gen DVD players. Just hold on a little longer. Prices are still way too high. Tho that is to be expected with it being the NEW technology.
I have just bought a new Sony LCD and using my old DVD player i wasn't able to take advantage of the Full 720p/1080i capabilities. This player fell within my budget and for the price that this DVD player is at i can tell you its the best deal i have had for quite some time. The Quality difference between my old Panasonic player and this new one is huge. I watched Children of Men on the player last night and it was crisp, clear and provided fantastic audio also.
HDMI is indeed the new replacement for Scart. It's the first time i have ever used the port and i find it an absolute delight. Picture and Sound looking clearer and sharper than any scart or component could possibly be capable of.
Reading a lot of the reviews on this product i'm not on my own with being happy with the purchase. Spend the money on this and wait a few more years for next gen to really kick in!
Classy and effective sony kit
This DVD player is proof for me that Sony are back at the top of their game.
Slim, stylish and well laid out, this is a classy looking machine although there is a little hint of similar Philips machines about the reflective front fascia. Unlike some reviewers here I like the look and feel of the remote, it will also control the basics on many makes of TV.
With a good HDMI cable this DVD player delivers superb upscaled DVD quality to my HD LCD TV. This has a dramatic effect on recent DVD releases but also (surprisingly for me) old BBC DVDs such as Blakes 7!
This player I can confirm IS multiregion capable. That does not mean that it is Multiregion already when you buy it from Amazon, it means that it is possible to make it multiregion by entering a code with a remote control. I have a One For All remote and used that to run the hack that is listed here on Amazon.co.uk and it worked perfectly, so within 1 hour of it arriving from Amazon I had made it multiregion. Please do take note of this as 'multiregion capable' could be misleading.
Recommended.
