Not had a panic attack since
I have read a few of these types of books. This has been the most helpful. Why? Because it empowers the reader to approach PA's positively and calmly. I've seen so many friends and family approach illnesses / phobias / and indeed panic attacks as though they just want to wait for a miracle pill from their GP and all will be fine. This book re-enforces that for some things you sometimes need to sit down and look at your approach and outlook on how you view what troubles you and then in turn how you set up your personal coping mechanisms. In short, this book 'explains' what PA's are. Once you understand them, you're half way there! The other half for me was learning to laugh at those horrid horrid feelings (taking control) and explaining to people around me 'Im running on the spot because I suffer PA's and need to re-balance my Oxygen / CO2 levels!' You soon realise people aren't laughing 'at' you, but will often run 'with' you ! Since building my self-confidence back up this way I have never since had a panic attack (2 years now!) but I know when/if I do, I can cope with them by using laughter, recalling methodical process as, and behaving like an upturned beetle if necessary! by letting go of fears and 'what ifs'.
Panic attacks are a necessary biological function of the body - this book helps you discover this for yourself in a gentle, kind, factual way. Next time you have one just think of all us sufferers being beetles together ! Good luck !
This book changed my life!!!!
I was a sufferer of panic attacks & very severe anxiety for many years & eventually created my own safety zone & became agoraphobic. I was housebound for nearly 3 years, but boy am I making up for it now..all thanks to this book! The moment I started to read it I felt an overwhelming sense of understanding & security, the realisation that I could get over it left me crying with relief for 3 days solid!. Finding out that other people felt like me was a massive source of comfort. The real turning point in my battle was when I read that the symptoms of an attack where infact harmless & infact..I wasn't dying afterall!!!Reading this book (known as my bible!)honestly changed everything for me. I really cannot praise it enough, not only have I got my life back, my family and friends have got me back. Christine Ingham..thankyou!
A life saver!
I too was a sufferer of panic attacks, they were so bad that I almost had a nervous breakdown and the doctors prescribed me anti depressants which I refused to take. Then a work colleague that I would never imagine to have ever had a panic attack confided in me and recommended this book.. it has to be one of the best buys I have ever made. It really helped me understand what I was going through and helped me back to my normal self. It proved invaluable to my regaining control of myself and my life and I highly recommend it to anyone that has had or is having attacks!
