Dacian
Rome fought 2 wars against the Dacians. Domitian's Dacian War 86-87 AD involved two punitive expeditions mounted as a border defense against raids from Dacia in. The first expedition was an unmitigated disaster, and the second achieved a peace seen as shameful by many in Rome. Trajan's Dacian Wars followed and the two campaigns of conquest ordered or lead by the Emperor Trajan in 101-102 AD, and 105-106 AD saw Trajan's forces be successful in both cases, reducing Dacia to client state status in the first, and taking the territory over in the second.
The Carpi or Carpians were a Dacian tribe that were originally located on the Eastern slopes of the Carpathian Mountains (Romania). While most Dacian tribes were either defeated by Trajan or overrun by the Vandals the Carpians (probably a federation of Free Dacian tribes) increased their power in the 2nd century AD, becoming one of the most important adversaries of the Roman empire in South-Eastern Europe.
