Discusses weaknesses of the Theory4
Contrary to the claims of fanatic atheists and others who i doubt have read the book yet right reviews, this book hardly mentions ID and Creationism and rather discusses the problems with certain aspects of the theory of evolution or to be more precise, with Darwinism.
The book basically refutes the textbook examples given for evolution and is thus not intended to be an a lot refutation of all the proofs for evolution that are proclaimed in scientific circles.
It goes from examples such as homology(similarity between bones of different animals), the tree of life and molecular phylogeny(similarity in DNA), the Darwin's finches, the peppered moths, the "Ape to human" icon, the fossil record, horse evolution, Haeckal's embryos to the Miller-Urey experiments which tried to show that life could evolve through the chemical building blocks of life. It deals with about 10 icons. It also deals with the four-winged fruit flies and antibiotic resistance or "evolution" and with sickle-cell anemia.
It does an excellent job of refuting a lot of these "icons" that are proclaimed(or so it appears) as the best evidence for evolution in biology textbooks and shows how the fanatical evolutionists and the textbooks have distorted a lot of these icons and made them appear as strong evidences even due a number of evolutionary biologists have criticised a lot of these icons themselves and admitted to their weaknesses.
Rest assured that the PhD biologist(Dr Wells) has a whole load of references to prove his sources and points. The references fill up a large number of pages.
The book has also been peer-reviewed by a number of evolutionary biologists too and though they differ with him, they still agree that the information he gave is accurate.
However i must say that on some of the icons i would have liked him to elucidate more on such as on "human evolution" and "horse evolution" and this is why i gave 4 stars.
I hope that another sequel to this book will be written by the biologist and which is more updated(as it is 2008 now) and refutes the new arguments used by evolutionists and takes on them "all-out" as this current book refutes only the biology textbook examples(as the title says).

A Classic 5
Icons of Evolution is now a classic and must reading for anyone interested in Darwinism. I have carefully read the reviews of this book looking for mistakes. All books have mistakes, but in this case 99 percent of the negative reviews attack the author in some way, and some throw out a very personal attack. This is very disappointing. As they say, if you can not attack the arguments, you attack the person. For the record Wells has a PhD from Yale for a thesis on evolutionary history titled Charles Hodge's Critique of Darwinism: An Historical-Critical Analysis of Concepts Basic to the 19th Century Debate, and a PhD in molecular biology from the University of California, Berkeley. He started at Princeton where he majored in geology (and, as is not uncommon, became an atheist as a result). Although he was in the top one percent of his class at Princeton, he dropped out to find himself (also a familiar story) and ended up at, surprise, Berkeley. He finished his degree in geology there and added physics and biology majors. He also ended up a radical at Berkeley (not a shock either) and for his stand against the Vietnam war served four months in solitary confinement plus eight months in Leavenworth. The more he studied Darwinism, the more dissatisfied he became with the theory of evolution, and ended up concluding that Darwinism has major holes in it (also not uncommon). This book is one result of his life long research in this area. Wells, aside from some youthful digressions influenced by his peers and radical professors, has since followed the scientific evidence to its logical conclusions. His work has stirred up enormous unprofessional name calling (which unfortunately says a lot about the scientific establishment) but has resulted in no solid arguments against his basic conclusions. If he stayed a Berkeley radical, he would no doubt be a full professor at Harvard by now with 10 best sellers under his belt plus 14 university press books. Instead, he went where his research took him and ended up one of the most disliked kickers in the scientific world. Not to conform carries a big price, especially in science.

Irefutable Scientific Proof that Neo-darwinism is a religion5
Wells carefully and systematically dismantles the icons of every evolutionary text-book with startling ease and accuracy, quoting many published scientific research papers from non-theistic and evolutionary scientists in the process, showing that this is not a 'Creationist' vs 'Evolutionist' argument as the Neo-darwinsit cabal love to say, but really a call to truth and a return to proper Science.

Wells does not rubbish Darwin, rather he applauds his great work, his scientific honesty and sincere and honest mistakes, often showing how modern-day neo-darwinists mis-quote and mis-use his work to justify their untenable positions. Welsl says rightly that honest and true science seeks TRUTH and not ideology - it should certainly not defend icons that are known to be proven false or misleading. However as becomes apparrent as you wade through the clearly presented evidence, Ideology is what neo-darwinism has become, witnessed too by the rabid ranting of its adherents when there ideology is threatened by uncomfortable but irefutable facts. Thsi is because the Theory has become more important than the truth, and is no longer founded on proper scientific methods or facts.

Contrary to one review on here, Wells emphatically does NOT reject natural Selection, nor do any I know who support doubt neo-darwinsim. Natural Selection as Wells clearly says is an observable fact within species. Wells however clearly shows how Darwins own tests for the validity of his theory hav ebeen failed in that Natural selection is clearly not the mechanism behind all origins and that it does not support the theory of a Common Anscestry for all life i.e. macro-evolution.

Wells makes a brilliant case against the ICONS and we should ALL be outraged that they are still being used in SCHOOL text-books anywhere. You only have to look at people like Dawkins to see that Evolution, once a true scientific theory has been hi-jacked by Atheistic ideologists who care little for Scientific Truth. We must not be afraid of the Truth no matter how uncomfortable it is, or where it leads.

I recommend this book to anyone. Unlike Behe's brilliant book 'Darwins Black Box', it is far more accessible to non-scientists, easy to read, very direct and to the point, never over-playing its hand, always informative, well-researched, and enjoyable. However, as one reviewer says on here, be prepared to be ANGRY, because Wells shows very clearly that there is a deliberate policy out there to supress the truth and to teach lies. As Moulder and Skully used to say - THE TRUTH is OUT THERE !

May Wells and others keep fighting for the re-establishment of true Science, Truth and Honesty.
