Customer Reviews
For the coffee table and the design board!
This is a wonderful book that would make the perfect Christmas present for any gardener, whether they want to create something of beauty in their garden or just dream about it from the comfort of their armchair. I bought one for my Dad (not from Amazon - sorry) who found it inspirational to the point of becoming almost evangelical! Whilst some aspects of the book must be seen as aspirational (especially for those with more modest gardens), the concepts and ecological principles are definitely something we should all be applying on a daily basis. If you buy this book to add some colour to your coffee table, you will not be disappointed: you get a lot of book for the price and the photographs and illustrations are beautifully presented!
close but no cigar
This book sold it-self to me on the abstract about being "A comprehensive guide to planning, constructing and maintaining...". Unfortunately it is not, but it is an interesting read with some superb images and photographs
Good information poorly presented
This appears to be a nicely produced hardback book - which you would expect for the price.
However, it is let down by the mistakes/typos which appear on almost every page. These not only make it hard to read but when dealing with quantities and measurements could lead to costly mistakes. They also often result in contradictory information leaving the reader confused.
I work for a publishing house and if I had sent this book for production I would expect to be looking for a new job.
It appears to be written by someone who has English as a second language, there's nothing wrong with that but it has clearly not been proof read. The colour reproduction on the photos is also not great, which is a shame as the subjects are beautiful.
The information is extensive and as the other reviewer stated it is certainly inspirational. If they reprinted it without all the mistakes I would give it 4 stars but as it is I certainly couldn't reccomend it.
