CD Description
1987's THE UPLIFT MOFO PARTY PLAN was the album in which the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sound came together. Producer Michael Beinhorn (who would later go on to produce such other alt-rock notables as Soundgarden and Hole) helped the Peppers incorporate more of a hard-rock approach to their already rich blend of funk and punk, with often explosive results. The songwriting is more focused this time around, while the playing is consistently energetic.
Though the album is strongon the whole, selected highlights include "Fight Like a Brave", "Funky Crime", "Me and My Friends", "Backwoods", "Behind the Sun", "No Chump Love Sucker", and the X-rated "SpecialSecret Song Inside". This would be the best (and sadly, final) album to feature the Kiedis/Flea/Slovak/Irons lineup--Slovak died from a drug overdose in 1988, and Irons exited soon after, turning up several years later as the drummer for Pearl Jam.

The Uplifting chilis!
This is definately one of my favourite of the Red hot chili peppers albums. However if your favourite is By the Way or Californication, You mightn't like it. It's a lot more "in ya face" and fast and rocking but brilliant! the Tracks are:
1.Fight like a Brave
2.Funky Crime
3.Me and me friends
4.Backwoods
5.Skinny sweaty man
6.Behind the sun
7.Subterranean homesick blues
8.Party on your P***y
9.No chump love sucker
10.Walkin' on Down the road
11.Love trilogy
12.Organic anti-beat box band
My favourite tracks are probably Fight like a brave, which has the best guitar riff I've ever heard! Play it really loud with all the windows open! (if you really want to annoy the neighbours!)
Subterranean homesick blues is my other favourite. Even though it was originally by the great Bob Dylan, I think it would be safe to say the chili's version is funkier!
The only track I don't like is Behind the sun, which I think sounds like something done by the backstreet boys or something!
If you call yourself a Chili peppers fan, then you have to have this album!
Buy it!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers-Need I say more!
As I sit here listening to Me & My Friends I think how can a group be so good and so consistent. The album contains some of the heavier of the Chili's tracks. However in their usual style the mellow but fantastic tracks are strewn inbetween. A fantastic album by a fantasic band. If you like Mothers Milk you will love this album anyway its the Chili's need I say more.
Not as accessible, but just as good nonetheless
Although this isn't as accessible as some of their later albums, this is a perfect example of the chilis' genius. The sound is less polished than the one they adopt on mothers milk, and its a lot more funky than the mellow feel of californication. However, it's just as good (if not better) quality music, and it shows that they've always had the ability to write wonderful songs. Personal favourites are fight like a brave, backwoods, ncls, oabbb and subterran homesick blues, but its really a matter of opinion. If you like their earlier stuff id advise you to buy this, because its almost as much of a classic as bssm.
