From the Back Cover
Laboratory studies and data analysis form the cornerstone of chemistry, yet the diversity of skills required in the laboratory and restricted time for laboratory work mean that students’ experience is often limited. Practical work must be fully understood and effectively presented, but students may underperform if they lack basic laboratory skills. Practical Skills in Chemistry provides easy-to-read guidance for those who wish to succeed. Transferable skills such as using information technology and communicating information are also essential for all students. This book gives invaluable help with these areas, from reporting practical and project work, to using spreadsheets and organising poster displays. This text’s unique and comprehensive coverage includes: general advice on practical work; basic laboratory skills, classical and instrumental techniques; analysis and presentation of data; information technology; library resources; and communicating information. Features include:
- 'One-stop' guide to the key practical skills needed in chemistry.
- Information presented in a clear and user-friendly manner, tailored directly for the mastery of basic laboratory skills.
- Numerous margin tips and hints, 'how to' boxes, checklists and worked examples.
- Guidance on numerical aspects, including logarithms and statistics.
- Chapters grouped into key topics.
- Relevant Internet resources for chemistry highlighted.
Customer Reviews
Good, but could do better
A good practical guide covering quite a range of basic techniques and areas such as report writing - all good stuff. The only problems are that there are a number of typographical errors, and some of the explanations are not as clear as one would hope. I expect that these faults will probably be corected in the next edition, since thay are annoying, but this is still a good introduction to practical chemistry.
