Product Description

Connor and Grace are twins, recently orphaned after their widowed father's death. Rather than being adopted by the town's busy-bodies, they decide to set sail for new pastures in their father's last single possession, his sailing boat. But a vicious storm sees their boat capsize and the twins separated. Two mysterious ships sail to their rescue - each picking up one twin before disappearing into the mist. Connor wakes to find himself on a pirate ship and is soon being trained up with a cutlass. Meanwhile Grace finds herself locked in a darkened room, as the vampirates await nightfall...Determined to find each other, yet intrigued by their new shipmates, the twins are about to embark on the biggest adventure of their life...

About the Author
Justin is well-known as a children's books publicity consultant, working on high profile campaigns including the launch of Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series and events at the Roald Dahl centre. Less well-known is his interest in vampires and that he's a dab hand at sword-fighting. Vampirates brings together both his interests, creating a world to delight children and adults alike.

Can't wait for the next one...5
Pirates, vampires, some great fight scenes and a huge cliffhanger, what's not to like? Cheng Li rocks, Mulucco Wrathe is hilarious and Lorcan is literally drop dead gorgeous.

Vampirates - A Ripping Yarn set in the raging Seas4
I adored this book and read it in one go. The mixture of vampires and pirates is complemented by Somper's brilliant characterisation and style. The two twins experiences are intertwined and the suspense on will they meet again is embroidered into this vibrant sensory portrayal of a futuristic pirate world. I'm 18 now but I'm sure any child who likes adventure will simply devour this book! I'm waiting with bated breath for the next book.

An excellent start5
This book is the start of a facinating series. At the start a huge storm rages over the town of Cresent Moon Bay. Grace Tempest wakes up in her and her brothers bedroom in the lighthouse. She goes to close the window but a flash of lightning startles her and she careers into Connor waking him up. The two go up to see their father at the lamp he reassures them both and takes them back to bed. But Grace cannot resist one last look at the bay as she does she sees one solitary ship thta reminds her of her fathers shanty of the vampirates up in the lamp room Dexter Tempest waves to the ship. Seven years later the twins father dies leaving them with nothing rather than be confined and suffocated by the towns busy bodies the Busby's the twins take to the sea. But a vicious storm tears them apart after capsizing their boat Connor can't find his sister as the storm dies down but sees a ship with wing like sails and life like figurehead sail off close by. He is then picked up by the Deputy captain of the notorious pirate ship the Diablo. Connor stuggle sto cope with the fact he has lost his sister and after repeatedly hearing his dead fathers voice accepts the fact that she might be alive BUT in the hands of the vampirates. Grace is in fact with the vampirates and settles down quite nicely. She is well looked after by a man called Lorcan Furey, who rescued her. After a short time she realises were she is and demandes to see the captain for news of her brother. The captain appears to be a scary benevolant creature but after her first encounter with him Grace realises you cannot trust appearances and rumors. On one thing however her first opinon is correct. A Vampirate called Sidorio appears to be a huge menacing evil creature and definately is. He is close to a severe rebellion. At the feast not as bad as it sounds Grace finds out that the vampirates are courteuous and kind to those who willingly give their blood once a week in minimal amounts but Sidorio has other things on his mind. He kills his donor and attempts to kill Grace but the captain arrives to her rescue just in time in more ways than he might of thought. But questions still remain do Connor and Grace re unite? Just how real is the vampirate ships figurehead? and just how enigmatic is the vampirates captain?
