Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Action-god Jackie Chan does his best James Bond impression with First Strike, an ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has Chan in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fuelled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the ageing star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about. The scene where Jackie takes on multiple goons while armed only with a ladder is one of his most jaw-dropping set pieces ever--and that's saying quite a lot. Be sure to stick around for the closing credits of gags gone awry, which graphically prove that Chan is truly the hardest working man in show business. --Andrew Wright

Synopsis
In director Stanley Tong's action-packed film, martial arts megastar Jackie Chan (as a Hong Kong police officer named Jackie) battles on land, in the air, and underwater in his efforts to help both the CIA and a Russian intelligence agency retrieve a stolen Ukrainian nuclear warhead. Sent on an easy tailing job, Jackie gets more than he bargained for and is soon fighting for survival on a frozen mountaintop against gun-toting baddies on skis and snowmobiles. Luckily the chase sends him to warm Australia, but danger still comes at Jackie from all angles--including sharks from below. As with other scintillating Tong-Chan partnerships, FIRST STRIKE features classic Chan-style slapstick comedy and balletic fight sequences, including an unforgettable warehouse brawl in which his only allies are a stepladder and a broomstick. Chan's already incomparable legend as a daredevil stuntman is fortified by a virtually unbroken string of dangerous acrobatics and by the news, upon the film's release, that its star contracted severe hypothermia after filming a plunge into an ice-glutted lake.

An enjoyable flick for the family
Jackie chan at his best again. Enjoyable plot and good humour. What more can i say?
Not classic Jackie
Well, from the reviews above you would expect this movie to be a classic but it does not rate highly with me. I used to enjoy this film but after watching his Hong Kong films I find this to be drab due to it's non-exsistant storyline and large chunks with no action in. The villians are laughable too, with cliched gangster-style suits, they are just being evil for the sake of it. The fight where Jackie uses numerous objects to defeat his foes( including a metal ladder) is worthy of Chan, but this is one of very few of the films saving graces. If you have seen Jackie's Hong Kong films( such as the classic Police Story) I advise you to be wary and rent this movie first.
Some of Chan's best stunts make this a must buy.
Jackie Chan takes his Police Story character for one last spin. Going undercover and breaking out of prison as he attempts to bring down a dangerous gang of criminals. The story allows Chan to show off his superb fighting skills as well as some of the best set piece stunts on video. Even Yeoh is not to be outdone. Despite her limited training at the time she lands a bike on a moving train. This stunt was set to steal the show so Chan decided to go one better and wrote in his own show stopper with a helicopter.
