Synopsis
A spot-on parody of TOP GUN, HOT SHOTS! follows the expolits of ace pilot Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen), who is obsessed with living down his father's disastrous reputation and winning the heart of beautiful psychiatrist Ramada (Valeria Golino) from professional and romantic rival Kent Gregory (Cary Elwes). In HOT SHOTS! PART DEUX, Sheen and much of the original cast are back for more wacky military misadventures.

Hot Shots Part Deux

Topper's the only man for the job, but he's too hung-up on his ex-girlfriend (Valeria Golino) to deux it - until a beautiful CIA agent coaxes him back in the saddles. It's a do-or-die laughing mission that takes Harley and his Hot Shots on an action-packed trail, booby-trapped with spoofs of movie classics and filled with famous faces in hilarious cameos. Directed and co-written by Jim Abraham's (Airplane!, The Naked Gun), this is truly the mother of all sequels!

Terrible cuts
Hot Shots! - Brilliant film. Totally worth watching many times, and has held up pretty well (watch Top Gun first though to get the most out of it).

Hot Shots Part Deux - Could have been brilliant but has had some of the funniest moments cut, including the excellent scene in the back of the limo. As this is one of the funniest scenes ever it is greatly lost, and lets down the package completely.

So, buy this, then "obtain" a copy of Part Deux without the cuts to appreciate this movie fully.

Disappointing
As a fan of the Hot Shots films, particularly the second one, I was looking forward to its release on DVD, but now that I have it, I'm very dissapointed. Naturally, the sound and picture quality are both excellent, and the additional material (movie trailers) is fun to watch. But unfortunately, the films are cut. Hot Shots Part Deux is missing at least 5 minutes of footage, including all of the scenes of Topper/Michelle in the back of the limo, and in bed together. There are also several cuts made for language. Don't waste your money. Wait until it's back on TV and tape it...

Hotshots!/ Hotshots! Part Deux ROCKS
What can I say? Both films are hilarious spoofs, and no sign of Mel Brooks anywhere! The original Hotshots! sends-up Top Gun, with loads of great characters (look out for Dead-Meat, Washout and, my favourite, Admiral Benson) and even more memorable quotes. Topper's run on the Iraqi power plant is pure genius.
Hotshots! Part Deux travels along a more Rambo route, as Topper is sent to rescue a hostage. Again, characters and quotes galore. Watch out for the duel between Saddam and (now President) Benson. "We'll do this the old Navy way...first man to die loses!"
