Battelfield Tour
This is an excellant follow-up to his classic work The First Day on the Somme. Concentrates on the numerous Commonwealth War Graves which abound in the area, there are almost two hundred of them! Gives good account of the actions which took part within the vicinity of the Cemeteries so the reader can develop a good understanding of what the battle was all about. Like his previous book, this is an intensely moving read.
A Somme Summer
This book proved invaluable on a whistle-stop tour of the 1915 area in June 2000. The book provides the reader with enough information to tantalise the imagination. With a good Michelin map the memorials and cemeteries are easily found. I went to Louvencourt having read Vera Brittain's "Letters from a lost generation" to pay respects to Roland.
