Customer Reviews
amazing player..almost an ipod beater ..currys £200
this thing is quite amazing....even if thats just by judging the jealousy people even with the new ipods have when i whip this out and watch a music vid in full quality
taking from the review below i did think that paying for these files was a bit of a cheat
but as i am not quite as tight fisted and that the fact i bought this for £200 at currys...i got the new firmware
it went on in a few mins and then all the music vidoes and film that were in AAC and in my itunes folder just dragged it onto the hard drive and within minutes was able to play EVERY single file that i had...i still cant find a format this thing cant play that i use.
but if you arnt prepared to pay the £20 or whatever it cost to buy this firmware updates then there is no point buying one
basically....for £220 i have an all singing all dancing machine that still is quite pocket friendly
i dont know wether you can find the 160gb version for a cheap price ..i would have got it if i could have found it...so dig about...get a cheap 160gb version and get the software for it
so yeah dont listen to the guy below and just grab your wallet and head out to buy it...
(oh and the only bad point is that it is slightly...(SLIGHTLY)...more fiddely to browse you album list but it is just as fast
Incomplete package
The archos 504 is probably a very good media player, it certainly plays mp3 well enough.
It does however have a major failing in that it is sold as being able to play mpeg-4 video but is incapable of playing any mp4 files that i own without requiring a 19.99euro download from Archos. None of my AVI files will play without paying for a different 19.99euro download from their site. I can only assume that any future codecs will also only be supported by yet another paid for plug-in.
I've reboxed mine and it'll be returned this evening. I'm disgusted at Archos for playing this trick, the only reason that i bought the player was that it was only £20 more than another well known player; that player does, however, play video out of the box without any extra expenditure.
Well done archos, here's one customer you've lost forever.
