Mccarthy's first novel hides a secret from beginning to end. It is, like a lot of his work, a novel of nature encroached upon by the machine of man and the consequences this provokes.

Mccarthy's trilogy ends with a sense of heavy sadness. While not his best book it still engages and resonates. Perhaps too few of those enormous grandiose sentences that leave you reeling.
