The MUST-READ book on low thyroid is "Stop the Thyroid Madness", passionate and comprehensive. I also recommend the book "Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It" by Brownstein via Amazon.com

Concise guide to disorders of the Thyroid. Was not in-depth enough for me personally, having read many books on the subject, but good for an introduction to the disease and its causes.
