The little stalwart man of courage.
A man of true stalwart character. Comming from humble beginings and mouding himself into to a fighting machine and becomming a world champion. He stepped out of his weight division and fought the great American Pete Herman and recieved a savage beating, he never complained and came bouncing back to continue fighting. His last fight was against the Fillipino Pancho Villa. Another rare ocasion when he was beaten. His career was over and this was his last defence, once again he went down fighting. Struck accidentally after the bell, he never got into his stride and was soundly beaten. After the fight Villa apologized for the untimely punch, and Wilde once again showed no grudge and accepted it was his time to go. In his retirement he wrote many articals on boxing which gave him a decent living.
While waiting on a railway station for his train after making a personal appearance. He was attacked by some local louts. He was head butted and beaten to the ground bleeding profously. Some kind souls got him into hospital for tratment, and he was put to bed. Seing his resting in bed, one young nurse remarked that he looked like a boy. She never knew that he was once the world flyweight boxing champion.Known as ''The ghost with a sledgehammer in his hand''
