Having arrived in Britain in the late 1920s, dirt-track racing soon established itself as an incredibly popular national sport. By the end of 1928, there were over fifty tracks throughout Britain. Many venues were opened and run sporadically over the next seven decades, particularly during the heyday of speedway after the Second World War, when interest was phenomenally high. As a result, the sport has taken place at numerous locations throughout the country. Featuring over 300 venues, this new edition of "Homes of British Speedway" is fully updated with new tracks, updated track information and a host of new illustrations. Every track is afforded statistical information, including address, years of operation, track lengths, promoters and club successes. The more important homes of Speedway, for example Belle Vue, Swindon, Wimbledon and Coventry, all receive highly detailed synopsis. Compiled by Robert Bamford, a prolific author of "Speedway" titles and editor of the "Tempus Speedway Yearbook" series, and illustrated by John Jarvis, a leading historian and enthusiast of the sport in the modern era, this book is an essential purchase for anyone with an interest in the shale game. An ambitious and comprehensive work, it is the definitive history and guide to the homes of British Speedway.

This book looks at every track in the country
This book has been produced as a result of hours of painstaking research. Every track that has ever hosted speedway is in this book. Even down to the track built at the back of Pinewood studios for the shooting of a film! I was surprised to see over 300 venues have hosted the sport since it came to Britain in 1928. If I were to nitpick maybe a few more photo's ( and there are some on nearly every page ) and more description of the stadiums, but I surpose it would then have been well over the 300 pages! Every fan should have a copy of this book, and tick off the tracks they have visited.
The complete where and when of British Speedway circuits
This book is an absolute must for speedway fans in terms of discovering just where and when speedway racing was staged at any given venue in the UK.
A must for all speedway supporters
I have been a speedway supporter for many years, also a ex rider,i didnt no there was so many stadiums,in this book,if only there was more stadiums about today.I think it would be bigger than football, the book is a great book of interest it would be nice to go and visit some of the sites, but probally property developers have built on them. Its a big shame, for speedway, buy the book you wont disapointed.
