Out of the Frying Pan: The Story of New Cross Speedway

Product Description
The New Cross stadium opened its doors to the public in April 1934. Membership cost one shilling and allowed cut price admission in to all enclosures. Crowds flocked to watch experienced riders and up-and-coming stars like the lap-record-breaking Tom Farndon who tragically crashed and died in 1935. The New Cross Rangers folded in 1963, leaving a legacy for the sport in London to maintain. Out of the Frying Pan is a considered appraisal of the ups and downs of the New Cross speedway team at the stadium of the same name. It covers both the pre- and post-war periods, outlining great team and individual performances, as well as revealing the roles of the promoters in maintaining meetings at a reknowned speedway venue.
