    Great little drive5
Firstly it is nice looking but quite heavy drive, but heavy means good quality, right.

I paid extra for the silver over the plastic as you never know what is going to happen to plastic. Plugged in and my PC found the drive immediately. Clicked on the new drive letter and found that the drive was in FAT which can become a problem as FAT drives have a limit of 4Gb per file, meaning a whole movie will not fit in one file. So I changed it to NTFS. This was easy to do. In `My computer' right click on the Freecom drive and select `format'. This will open a little window, make sure you tick the little `quick format' box (or it could take up to an hour, as it is looking for bad sectors in a brand new drive) press OK and a few seconds later your drive is now NTFS. You need to do this before you have started transferring files otherwise the formatting will clear everything.

So, why only 465gigs? This is to do with the way in which the hard drive manufacturers measure free space. They use 1000 bytes = 1KB whereas Microsoft use 1024bytes = 1KB hence the difference. If you right click the drive and select properties, the capacity will show as the correct amount (500,000,000,000+ bytes). Your PC internal drive works in the same way.

It is nice and quiet and turns off when your PC is off (but the blue 500GB light remains on, so power of sorts is still going through it).

This is my second Freecom drive and both are better than the first one I bought (Envisage). If you do get problems, which I haven't, it has a UK phone number unlike the Western Digital.

Very fast, very cool and very very quiet, superb buy.

The best external hard drives in my opinion.5
I have several of these drives and will soon be ordering more.

They're smaller than many others, very well made, almost silent and come with a 2 years Bristish warranty. I had one with a faulty power supply unit - I emailed Freecom's Customer Service and a replacement was sent the same day - giving me complete confidence in the company (with no need to return it to an overseas address).

    Good buy4
Overall I am very pleased with this product. It is near silent when running, quick to transfer data and relatively light. Also, as mentioned below, the battery pack is very small making it easy to transport (compared to other drives anyway). Mine did arrive with some scratches on the front which was annoying and there is no capacity indicator on the front (some sites list this as a feature).
