Synopsis
Michelle Baldwin (a.k.a, Vivienne VaVoom) brings the lost art of burlesque back to the forefront of pop culture. Evolving from an underground revival in the early 90s to a nearly mainstream fetish, neo-burlesque embraces a wide variety of modern interpretations all based on the classic bump and grind and "taking it off" with a wink and a smile. Burlesque has been rediscovered in a variety of styles including classic; modern; punk rock; circus; political; queer; and comic to name a few, so that it is now perhaps even more imaginative and energetic than during it's historic heyday.

Customer Reviews

Utterly utterly gorgeous book5
As a long time fan and beginner performer of burlesque I was so excited when this book arrived. My friends didnt see me for the rest of the day, so wrapped up was I in the stunning imagery and informed text of the tome!
There is a perfect balance between the history and the aesthetic of burlesque and with plenty of deatail of current artists and troupes it was an real inspiration. The text is very up to date and with the current resurgence of burlesque and strip-tease with a wink and a smile I believe this book to be an invaluble resource for anyone interested or indeed consumed by it.
Performers, pop culturalist, historians, designers, decadents and anyone charmed by the swish of a Sally Rand fan dance will revel in this book!

this book is like a box of expensive chocolates, each page is a delight. i was totally over the moon with this book, as an owner of many many books on the suject i wondered if i needed another one but this is a really beautiful, delightful read, a great exploration of nouveaux burlesque. Its also nice to see so many lovely british performers flying the flag too! great
