Product Description

1994 found Ted Hawkins breaking through to his largest audience yet with the release of THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS, Hawkins' first album for a major label. Sadly, on New Year's Day 1995 he succumbed to a massive stroke, leaving this record as his final offering. The album is every bit the equal of his remarkable WATCH YOUR STEP and HAPPY HOUR.
Hawkins is supported by subtle and evocative accompaniment-churchly organ here, a steel guitar there-and the players are understated and perfectly suited to the material. The few covers include "There Stands The Glass", a stirring song that often opened Hawkins' concerts, Jesse Winchester's "Biloxi", and John Fogerty's "Long As I Can See the Light". Ted Hawkins was a big man with a big voice, and the spiritual and emotional shadows he cast here will linger for at least the next hundred years.

Customer Reviews

Wonderful / Beautiful Album5
To be honest I can't remember where I first heard of Ted, but when I had I looked him up on Amazon and came across this album, after reading the other two reviews I thought what the hell and bought it and i'm VERY glad I did. Since then i've fallen in love with Ted's unique singing style and am trying to collect all of his albums.

He has a husky voice, which lends itself superbly to his singing style, a kind of Bluesy/Folk mix with some lovely guitar riffs thrown in for good measure. The album flows along like waves lapping on the shore and will no doubt having you sitting back with your eyes closed swaying along to the melodies.

If you haven't heard any of Ted's songs before I BEG you to buy this album, i'm sure you'll like it and who knows you may just fall in love.

God bless you Ted.

A sadly missed performer5
I saw Ted Hawkins at The Basement in Sydney, the year before he died. I was so impressed that I went to a shop gig the following day and bought this CD, which he then signed. I have most of Ted's CDs but this one is still my favourite. The production lifts all the songs. The live CDs are great if you want a momento of what it was like to see Ted solo, but this CD really does it for me. Once heard this voice is not forgotten, every track is brilliant. Ted was a sonster, like many of the blues guys before him - playing what people wanted - across a multitude of genres.
This album charted in Australia, one of the few countries it did, which I feel is a great shame. BUY it!!
Shine on Ted.

A classic album of Blues5
I first heard green eyed girl on radio in Oz. This was enough for me to check out the CD. It is a great CD and makes me wish I had caught his act in Perth the year before he died. All the songs are performed with great emotion and simplicity.

Love his version of Keep a candle in the window.
