Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
Alpha--Corin Dingley and Andy Jenks--are among the best of the trip-hop generation. Signed to Massive Attack's Melankolic label, their debut owes debts to Scott Walker, Burt Bacharach, and John Martyn, weaving shreds and swatches into something new. Yes, it is downbeat, the kind of music for long, lonely nights, but it is absolutely perfect for those nights. Guest vocalists help out as Dingley and Jenks manipulate the sounds and the strings, fill it all out beautifully. Crafted and inspired, one of '97's standouts. --Chris Nickson

Stands the test of time5
I bought this album back in '99 when it came out, at a time when i was into a lot of that massive-attacky-portisheady-bristol sound. The comparisons are there, but this album is a lot more unique original and timeless than its contemporaries.

I put it on again last week and (i know its a cliche, but) it has'nt left my cd player since. It still sounds as well written, lush, atmospheric, and brilliantly produced as when i first played it. Every track is superbly layered, has great string arrangements, and im still finding weird snippets of 1940's films (and the like) that i hadnt even noticed before. -- Magic, while a lot of other stuff from that time just sounds clunky worn and tired....

beautiful sublime music5
I first heard this album on the listening post at Virgin Megastore in San Francisco in 1999 and I have played it almost every day since. This is an album to listen to while laying back and closing your eyes and just get lost in the wonderful layers of music this album produces. Similair to the Cocteau twins but with vocals you can understand. This was released on Massive Attacks "Melancolic" label and has some of the trademark Massive Attack trip hop elements but I think this is far superior to anything that Massive have released. IGNORE THIS ALBUM AT YOUR PERIL

Fantastic5
However hard I look I have not found anything quite as good as this album and that includes Alphas other two releases.
You have to be the kind of person who likes to sit back and really, really listen to music to get everything from this but if you put the effort in it really will pay dividends, I promise. There are more than one or two gems to be found.
Best described as beautiful and strange but a wonderful collection of moody electronica.
‘With’ is just about the most wonderful, heart felt piece of music I have ever heard.
In my humble opinion, there are many who try and fail to create what this album does unfortunately, that includes Alpha’s follow up’s to this fantastic album.
