Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
If you want to plot a classic rise and fall pattern in the career of a band, look no further than the Pixies. This middle album, third of five, is the pinnacle of their noise equation: taut, terrifying and tightly edited, these 15 tracks (best known: "Monkey Gone To Heaven"; best quality, the insane "Debaser"; or the predatory "Hey") have the confidence that was missing from Come On Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa, but without the bloated pomp of Bossanova or Trompe Le Monde. Black Francis, as Charles Thompson IV was known then, surfs fast with his and Joey Santiago's guitars, tempered by the groundswell of Kim Deal's fine bass and counter vocals. It is like the last stand of US indie-dom: intelligent music encased in its precious, intricate and trademark Vaughn Oliver sleeve. Charlie Porter

Hits Like Cinderella5
If you are reading this to get an idea of whether to purchase or not then I would like to ask "what took you so long"? Next I would like to tell you to "buy it"! This here album was created in the grand halls of heaven and sent down to earth by special delivery by God himself via the unusual and manic mind of the Pixies frontman Black Francis. From the opening baseline on the exceptional opening track "Debaser", all the way through to the last note of "Gouge Away" this record will capture you, spin you around, take you on a journey and want you lusting for more. Do you remember your first time on the Waltzer at the Fair? This will leave you with the same adrenalin rush and have you racing for your next turn on the attraction. The tracks just seem to crash into one another with an effortlessness that makes you wonder how can one screaming, screeching banshee like yell stop and then start into a beautiful love song - "Crackity Jones" followed by "La La Love You"?

I first purchased this Gem of a record in 1989 in tape form to take on holiday and listen to whist sat around the pool in Majorca. I have never stopped listening to it since and it is an album that is rare in the fact that it stands the test of time. Some will say "Stone Roses", "Sergeant Pepper", "Day at the Races" etc. are all albums that stand the test and "Doolittle" is certainly in this category. When the tape wore out I purchased "Doolittle" on CD then ripped it onto my computer and I am now listening to it on i-pod. Surely there is no better yardstick than this?

Anyway, if you are now reading this to purchase, then I would like to ask you to join me in your reserved seat on the Waltzer, pull down the safety bar and get ready for the ride of your life. If you are not going to purchase this yet from the reviews you have just read then I suggest you go throw some ping-pong balls into a goldfish bowl and let the fun lovers enjoy themselves!

The holy grail of alternative rock 5
This is one of the best albums ever made, one of those rare albums where every track is killer, one of those rare albums where you think how the hell can an artist record perfection like this. I cannot recommend this enough. This isn't just a 5 star album it is musical genius. Fact. If you want to buy a Pixies album, this is the one. If you want to buy an alternative rock album this is the one. Infact, if you are a serious fan of music then this should already be in your collection. The likes of Nirvana's Nevermind and other so called masterpieces of this genre cannot hold a candle to Pixies Dolittle.

Awesome 5
Without doubt this truly is a classic. I first heard doolittle when i was a teenager at a student party and it blew me away, i went out and bought it the very next day. The songs here are amazing, from the incredible screaming 'Debaser' to the hypnotic 'hey', you will not believe that songs like this were possible. A true work of genius, you won't be disappointed!
