Customer Reviews

Not Nick Drake, but excellent5
This is the first "modern" album I have found that does capture that intimacy that is such a treasure to hear on record. It is difficult to single out particular songs which stand out, the album is more of a suite of songs which work well to create a kind of feel.
It is a pity that artists like David Kitt and Damien Rice get all the attention where here we have in my opinion a great artist in the making who is already producing beautiful work.
The Nick Drake comparison which is inevitably made to any acoustic artists is not totally unfounded (for once), however Nick Drake's albums have an edge to them though the revealing of Nick's troubled mind, where Paul's songs seem more peaceful. Though not as flashy as Nick's, the guitar playing is nice with enjoyable embellishments of simple chord progressions, and the acoustic guitar sound captured here is one of the most satifying things I have heard for some time.

Finally, the new Nick Drake5
I have bought so many albums since I discovered Nick Drake 5 years ago that purport to be 'the New Nick Drake'; most of these have been quite good but none have captured that ND feeling.

Paul O'Reilly is the New Nick Drake and I hope he would take that as the massive complement that is intended. He sings with a breathly, meloncholic voice that is so fragile that at times you risk loosing it; be sure to shut everyone up when you turn this record on! That voice is mixed with simple acoustic guitar and occasional samples to amazing effect on uncluttered, straightforward songs.

This is a beautiful album of paradoxically uplifting melancholic songs that is perfect with a glass of red wine late, late in the evening
