Customer Reviews

There's only one thing better than this album...5
and that's a live Cat Empire gig.
A great intro to the band.
They're a bit of an odd sound on first listen but will soon have you smiling, toe tapping and singing at the top of your voice!
Buy it!!

Great music shame about the copy protection...1
It is really get up on your feet stuff. But it's got the Cactus copy protection system on it and it will only play on my computer using the sub-standard player they provide, and not at all on the player in my wife's car. When I do play it on the computer it the sound isn't good, rather like the entire band are playing inside a cardboard box. On my HiFi the sound is good, and other stuff sounds just fine on my computer, so I'm thinking it's good old cactus that's at fault.

Added to the above is the fact that I can't rip the tracks (ok, I can of course but it's more work) to play on my MP3 player or laptop. I probably won't be buying more CDs from this band or from their publisher because they're likely to be protected too.

Shame really, they're very good, and highly recommended if you don't mind copy protection or can work around it.

The trumpet will send a shiver down your spine5
Well first things first, I'm not writing this because I've just bought the album and love it to bits. Im writing this review because I bought the album over a year ago and love it to bits.

I love the way most of these songs are related to things that have happened to the band for example, track 1. How To Explain, written about the crowds at all the gigs the band has played, track 2. Days Like These, written about the fun-filled days they have all experienced and what makes life worth living. Track 4. The Chariot, written as a stand against all the war currently in the world, track 7. The Rhythm, about meeting the most amazing girl ever. I could go on.

The Cat Empire's debut album is a show case of all the genres of music they incorporate, a perfect blend of jazz, salsa, reggae, funk and hip-hop with a few others thrown in for good measure.

The album itself is well structured, as soon as you may be getting tired of the upbeat feel there is a change. The album has an opening that will blow you away, a slow 3rd track, a bright and exciting middle to the album with 3 of the last 5 tracks giving a more relaxed mood yet still full of energy.

I can't think of any weak points to this album, the trumpet will send a shiver down your spine and every track will make you smile at the clever lyrics.
