Customer Reviews
this is the greatest gift.... i said the greatest
bought on the strength of "leave you wanting more" - a truly magical song - i did find myself wondering what i had purchased. the slightly unorthodox guitar playing and discordant sounds john made werent what i expected at all. but hell. surprises at christmas are miles better than if you know whats in the wrapping, only if they are good. and this album is very good, from the shouts of "thats right! (everlasting pause) that cats right!" to the splendour of "pirate weekend". "leave you wanting more" (was there ever a more accurately named song?) is definetly the highlight, along with a personal favourite "meanwhile in rocksville", and the other songs all grab your ears and mind with catchy tunes, bizarre lyrics and, oddly, a guitar solo that is definetly drawn from muses absolution album somewhere. bands should also announce the song titles like john does before a few songs, in his beautiful glasgow accent. buy it if you want something more from rock n roll than regurgitated crap that seems to be the norm. we are all sluts of trust, just let yourself admit it.
erm....words evade me.
First got wind of this group via john peels nightly slot on Radio 1, he regularly plugged the band and a few tracks filtered through. I looked out for a release date for the record and when it finally arrived i snapped a copy up almost instantly. I've had it a while now so an honest review is plausable.
What can i say??? bar that this record is from start to finish immense, it caters for every guitar orientated music fan who dares to venture into the sluts sleazy, dirt driven guitar world. It posses what most bands fail to concieve on more recent guitar records, passion. You can feel the tension of the record building, and sweet moments like dominoes show a diversity that you wouldn't expect from the first half of the record. All in all a top class effort, after one listen in the aftermath you'll crave for me and more because the album requires exstensive listening to enable thorough exploration. This deserves acclaim of the highest order.
Best glasgow band in years!
This album has been in regular rotation in all my players for the past month and a half. The hooks and riffs in this album are amazing, and it's obvious there's a wide range of influences john and anthony, hereafter affectionately named the sluts, are drawing from. For this reason, it's likely that no matter what type of rock you usualy listen to you will be turned on by the sluts!!! Whether you usualy listen to emo, indie, metal, rock and roll or whatever I can guarantee you will be amazed by the sluts' astounding dramatic debut into the international rock scene. Playing highly regarded festivals such as sxsw 2004 has firmly established these guys as a major future player in rock and roll. Buy this record, and you can say you were there when it all began!
