Product Description

Archer Prewitt's fourth full-length solo album, WILDERNESS,is a culmination of the orchestral-pop ambitions strongly hinted at in his previous releases--THREE, WHITE SKY, and IN THE SUN. Long, languid pieces like "O, KY" and "Judy, Judy" twist and turn through successive movements and tempos, while Prewitt's way with an evocative lyric and a hummable tune is undiminished.
Prewitt conjures memories of ex-Zombies lead singer Colin Blunstone's solo albums on the caustic "Cheap Rhyme" and the magnificent title track, aided by the orchestrations of Susan Voelz and Max Crawford. The gorgeous "No More" simultaneously evokes early Pink Floyd, 1970s Britpop pioneers 10cc, and the melancholy acoustic textures of doomed British singer/songwriter Nick Drake. An occasional member of the Sea & Cake, Prewitt confidently steers his ensemble through lush orchestral thickets and dizzying time-signature changes on these mini-opuses, giving a strong indication that his own time in the spotlight will not be long in coming.

Customer Reviews

Wild about Wilderness (ho! ho!)5
Archer Prewitt has a great voice - airy and smooth (but not in a Michael McDonald way). His songs are addictive because they have loads of different parts, all of which have great hooks. This album is a tad more stripped down than Three and uses acoustic more than electric guitar. But it's a really dynamic and varied CD and it has some wonderful string parts. His songs grow organically and one track here, Go Away, has to have some of the tastiest chord changes I have ever heard. Some of it reminds me of Jim O'Rourke or Ken Stringfellow. The cover art is beautiful too, a drawing by Archer himself (who is also a graphic artist!)

Bliss - why no interest?4
This holds it's own against any of the current fashionable "singer songwriters" - why no publicity? Easily comparable to White Ladder in terms of a number of key songs that should be widely known - maybe his time will come and we will despise the endless radio play - but bring it on!
