Delicate Beauty with a Strong Vision
How come no one has reviewed this marvellous album yet? Ok, I'l give it a quick go. Think about the best Christmas songs by Low, but better, with subtler variations and less monotonous melodies. I remember this album was out in the same year as Brian Eno's Another Night On Earth, and even though the two lps are very different musically, I kind of associated them for their calm, intense, wintery and nocturne atmosphere. This album's far warmer than Eno's though. There are a few unforgettable tracks that will stick in your mind, plus really interesting instrumental passages that conjure a retro atmosphere but sound fresh as well. It's like the 'indie pop approach' found a treasure chest full of memories in an attic crammed of old objects and photographs and fell in a sweet reverie.
