Beautiful
The first Joshua Radin song I ever heard was "Closer", and I think it is still my favourite to date. This album is one of those ones that conveys all different emotions. I'll be talking to someone, or walking down the road, and one of his amazingly written lyrics will just pop into my head.
I was amazed when I found out he did a cover of "Only You", it being one of my favourite songs after the Office Xmas Special (British version, naturally.). And it's a really different but beautiful version.
Two more songs that are really worth mentioning (although it's all good) are "Will's Lullaby", which has the most beautiful melody, and always makes me want to cry, and "Amy's Song", which really does sum up my life sometimes: "And sometimes, sometimes, I wanna be...I scream that I wanna be, anyone but me." It's all brilliantly written, and I promise there will be at least one song that you will find yourself relating to.
Simply gorgeous
Joshua Radin deserves to be a major name! His songs are beautifully crafted, largely acoustic guitar tracks with a folky edge. The songs are gently paced and gorgeous. He uses simple arrangements, which add to the power of the lyrics ('Sundrenched world' adds cello and strings and beautiful female harmonies to his breathy voice).
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found his songs very immediately accessible - perfect for chilling out with, sharing with friends or working to. They seep into and through you.
His style is probably closest to Simon and Garfunkel ('The sound of silence' is very similar to some of his songs), with echoes of Nick Drake, Jose Gonzalez and even Damien Rice and Tom McRae.
I really hope that this cd is released in the UK as I think he could be massive. If you enjoy mellow, acoustic and harmony rich songs this is for you.
Most Excellente
Oh how unusual and what a suprise! I discovered Joshua Radin on Scrubs!
Having only known 3 tracks on this album when I bought it (two from Scrubs and one cover track) I was unfamiliar with most of it: On my first few listens, I thought that it was quite samey, and almost quite durgy.
But my faith in Zach Braff's music taste pulled me through! Once I familiarised myself with each individual track, I realised how brilliant it really is.
As with most albums, you have to give it a few listens to really appreciate it.
