Editorial Reviews
From the Label
Miami Vice includes a vide variety of sonic styles, from electronica and soul to salsa and post-rock. Among the artists featured are India.Airie, Goldfrapp, Mogwai, Nina Simone, Emilio Estefan, King Britt, and Moby, who is joined on one track by the legendary Patti LaBelle. The album also includes selections from the film's original score, composed by John Murphy (28 Days Later, Snatch) and Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Ultraviolet).
Customer Reviews
Typically good Mann OST
Michael Mann's jittery cop drama has an OST of two parts: the brash house/ hip hop of the clubs where Crockett & Tubbs do their under cover work, and the moody HEAT-like synths of the pair's respective private moments. You only really get the vibe of the former here with composer John Murphy's (28 Days Later, Snatch) excellent input reduced to 2 tracks.
This album loses a star due to the absence of the Linkin Park/Jay-Z mash-up that scored the excellent trailer and begins the movie.
Loyal but Mixed Soundtrack
The soundtrack is loyal to the movie. However, in the movie the music is well placed. Outside the movie it's just a mix of tracks that do not go well together. Listening to this soundtrack makes for little excitement. Most tracks will quickly be skipped and only a few listened to in length.
Like reliving the film
Absolutely agree with J Pitman read their review. Fantastic album even with the trailer track missing, haven't stopped listening to it, in the car and around the house. There's something for everyone on the album, my boyfriend and I have very different tastes in music but we can agree on listening to this album when we are together. Does help if you've seen the movie though!
