"What a Jewel" The Best 7" of 2006 by a mile.5
The boys and girls at Bestival really know what they're listening to when they pull gems like this out of the bag. This 7" comprises of the charming ode to kitchenware in Two Wooden Spoons and is backed by the equally wonderful Come a Cropper, a cautionry tale of trusting those "curly dark haired boys".

These are intimate recordings which focus on just vocals and guitar with utterly mesmerising results. Modern twisted acoustic folk music, trashed by so many other current songsmiths, in the hands of Kate Stables (aka This Is The Kit) is a rare find indeed.

Kate is one of the best english female vocalists I've heard in a long time, with a voice that is unaffected, utterly her own and deeply, deeply moving. This is matched with an effortless knack for great songwriting. Certainly recommended for fans of Sandy Denny, Beth Orton and Kate Rusby, these two songs feature on her equally fabulous CD "Where It Lives" produced by japanese label Angel's Egg (available via her myspace.)

Buy this now, these songs, esp. on vinyl, are as comforting as your favourite cosy jumper on a cold winter's day. If there is any justice This Is The Kit will be very big one day. For now this is easily my 7" release of 2006.
