Customer Reviews
Don't be afraid to buy this one - it grows on you!
Another review, by Doc "Doccstah" (31 Jan 2007) is well worth a read as I believe it sums up the album well...I have little more to add!
It's a really good mix of upbeat and slower songs, the slower ones being enjoyable enough to be able to overlook their soppiness! The first half of the album tends to be the upbeat half, whereas the fist-clenchers follow at the end...'This Kind Of Love', 'Truth Is' and 'Everything Else Disappears' are the ones which get me. The first few songs seem somewhat lyrically lightweight, but it balances out the album nicely.
As an album it sits together well, although to me it didn't surpass 'Chasing Daylight'...maybe it still doesn't, but it has grown on me a lot, and some songs are better than some on 'Chasing Daylight', which makes it worth the buy!
SH back in gear.
Sister Hazel are back on great form with their latest release, Absolutely.
Their last release "lift" left many of their fans pretty frustrated. Even the band themselves admitted they never enjoyed playing the material from that album so that tells you somethings wrong.
"Absolutely" has hints of the fantastic album released before lift, which was "Chasing Daylight".
Kicking off with the foot tappingly joyous "Shame", the album gets straight into top gear with this almost country rock style song. So catchy its unbelievable.
In fact its hard to spot a week point in the album. If I had to identify it I would probably say track 9 "Anyway" is the only track that doesnt do much for me.
Favourite tracks are without doubt in my opinion "Where Do You Go", "Tear by Tear" and "Hey Hey".
Also check out "Hello it's me" which is the best song about a coat you'll ever hear. ;)
Drew Copeland also puts his 2 pennys worth in with his usual soppy affair on the track "This kind of Love". I dont know, no matter how cheesy his songs are (In the Moment, Hopeless from previous albums) I always love them even tho they explode with complete soppy cheesyness. "This Kind of Love" is another one of these songs.
The album closes with the slow and stunning "Everything else dissapears". which is an absolute gem.
There are also a few dodgy lyrics in some of the songs which is an absolute rarity from Ken Block and the lads.
For Example when Ken sings "Wont let your lows blow my beautiful High..." it does sound like hes singin about blowing his nose.
And "One time, I wanna be the hero Baby" oozes similarities with enrique eglesias's "hero" (Maybe its only me that has problems with these two lines?..?)
Other than that tho, lyrics are top notch
Overall the albums is superb and is a step back on the right track from the Florida Quintet.
If you are a Hazel fan this is a must get.
