Customer Reviews

Buy this...5
This album it totally deserving of all the good reviews people have given it already on this site. Brand New have had 3 mainstream albums now and all 3 of them have different sounds, and each has been an improvement on the one before it. This album is intense, dark and touches upon some complicated subjects... and is all the better for it. It is a mystery to me how they have escaped popular attentions, because this is as good an album as I have heard in the last couple of years. Tracks 1-6 are each 5* in their own rights, each track fits in with the next and the result is breath-taking. It has a semi-intermission in 'Welcome to Bangkok' and as before every track is very good, but I feel the flow is lost a little bit.

Stand-out tracks on a stand-out album have to be singles 'Jesus Christ' and 'Snowing Season' although 'You Won't Know' is a personal favourite of mine, it is so powerful yet delicate at the same time. Highly recommended.

i love it5
i loved brand new's old stuff thought it was awesome, but it it no way hit me like this album did
when i first heard it, i was like what the hell is this, and was soo pissed off
then i felt abit down one day gave it a listen and just fell in love
they have got it to a T excatly what it feels like to be depressed, angry, hurt and also loved it just fit in so well to my life
i can honestly say there is not one track i dont like
i mean the pure anger in the last few lyrics of limousine is brilliant coz he is talking about love at the same time
i mean thats how i see it,its probs got nothing to do with that
but this is my favourite album at the moment and could possible be in my top 5 favourite albums of all time
its a must have
I LOVE BRAND NEW

Loses a star for the packaging4
Maybe it's just me, but in lieu of the 12" sleeve that surronded vinyl discs, many bands (or record companies) nowadays seem intent on packaging their wares in flimsy card folders that serve no other purpose than to annoy. OK we can get the lyrics off the internet, but how many more out of focus pictures of televisions do we need to fill out "booklets" inserted with these CD's. And the typeface as if they were written on a typewriter...aaaargh!
But back to the music. Echoes (to my ageing ears at least) of Nirvana, REM, Grandaddy(!) even early Cure in some of the slower instrumental passages. There are some quite lovely, proper tunes on here and the band aren't afraid to wig out when required. A bit of Replacements here and perhaps a smidgin of The Smashing Pumpkins as well. Oh I know other will disagree, but the music is truly 5 star and if I do detect the above influences then that is no bad thing.
Buy and enjoy...
