'Lady's Bridge' is the fifth album from Sheffield-based singer-songwriter Richard Hawley, and is the follow-up to his 2005 Mercury Prize nominated album 'Coles Corner'. Still mining a rich vein of musical heritage that takes in everything from Nat 'King' Cole to rockabilly and indie, the lush atmospherics on this album are complimented perfectly by Hawley'srich, deep voice. Includes the single 'Tonight The Streets Are Ours'.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Lauded singer-songwriter Richard Hawley (a former touring guitarist for Pulp, no less) made his commercial breakthrough on 2005’s remarkable, Mercury Prize nominated Coles Corner - his fourth solo album and one that oozed nostalgic balladry, old fashioned lyrical sentiment and cinematic soundtracks in equal measure. Lady’s Bridge – the name is yet another ode to his native Sheffield – mines the same seam as Coles Corner, with 11 eloquently charming songs that switch between the romantic strains of opener "Valentine" and "Roll River Roll" and more uppity numbers such as the rhythm & blues infused "Serious" and the countrified twang of tracks like "Tonight the Streets Are Ours" and the Johnny Cash inspired "Dark Road". Hawley’s lyricism retains its coruscating, retro feel, his vibrant baritone again matched to rousing orchestral strings, climbing chord sequences and background harmonising, creating atmospheres of dreamy fireside warmth and heartfelt melancholy (see "Lady Solitude"). It’s as hopelessly alluring as it sounds: when songs are this timeless, you really could listen to them for the rest of your life. --Paul Sullivan
Customer Reviews
...still not receiving the deserved recognition
I, like many others, have Jools Holland to thank for exposing me to the talent that is Richard Hawley. When I say talent, I mean it in the true sense of the word - Hawley is a unique talent, who is still not receiving the proper recognition for his consistently high quality output.
Having set the bar high with this album's predecessor "Coles Corner" I, like some here, initially felt this album didn't quite match it. A few listens later and how wrong am I? This is every bit as good, if not even better.
Some say old fashioned, I say classic; we have all but lost the institution that was the quality independent record shop on your High Street. Richard Hawley is the equivelant of your favourite old record shop, against the rest of the mass-manufactured pap that is the cheap, poor quality mp3 download.
Get some timeless quality music - get a bit of the talented Richard Hawley. And Lady's Bridge is a good place to start.
Wonderful and warm
This is the first Richard Hawley album I have heard and it is lovely. Gorgeous melodies and voice. I'll be getting his other work on the strength of this. If you like crooners, this should be right up your street.
Mark LeMar meets Sinatra
Mark LeMar meets Sinatra - love it. Has a very 50s feel with amazing vocals and lyrics. A must buy for any fan of modern easy listening.
