GREAT RARE TRACKS!!!
26 TRACKS FOR LESS THAN A TENNER!
IT'S GREAT OF THEM TO RELLEASE THESE RARE TRACKS FROM THE HOLLOWAYS VAST REPERTOIRE OF B-SIDES THAT SO MANY OF US MISSED OUT ON OR JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE MEANS TO PLAY THE VIYNLS!!!
GREAT STUFF! WILL KEEP US GOING TILL THE MUCH-ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM SAID TO BE EARLY NEXT YEAR!
"The Holloways can confidently exspect to be the biggest band of 2007" NME
The Holloways recently formed whilst living on Holloway road should, in my opion be much bigger than they are. Although their music is similar to most other indie bands out there today, their lyric writing ability is something to be admired. They write about real issues other than the usual love and relationships issue, which I think is really commendable.
Although this dosnnt directly relate to the album, they are also an excellent band live and in the very near furture, if they could just get some radio play they will go very far very soon. Especially as it is something they desserve!
I would truly recommend buying this album, i have lisened to it countless times, and am yet to get bored of a single track. Lisen to Generator, which is their best song, but the others arnnt close behind!
A little gem
I love it when things like this happen.
Buying an album on a hunch can be a dodgy dabble with fate - but when it works it is great. I must have heard something about the Holloways from somewhere but nothing prepared me for the musical freshness, energy and melody that I found.
They have followed a few bands of late in their approach to this album, it doesn't sit still with one genre - making it very hard to pigeon hole. This is a both a positive and negative quality depending on what side of the fence you sit. It can show great diversity and talent and keep an album fresh and the listener on their toes. It can also been seen as a bit of a marketing ploy; try to capture the maximum breath of the market to capture the most sales. When it is the latter, the music is not coherent and the album quickly loses it's point if it had any to start with. I am happy to say that I think The Holloways just have a varied set of influences and the album sits together very well indeed. - Although saying that, I would like to suggest one of the major influences must be the Wonder Stuff - sounding very similar in many ways.
The Holloways start with 'So this is Great Britain' that is a short punky rock song, sounding very much like the Only Ones with the delivery and Libertines with the arrangement. 'Generator' is a ska influenced track which is a catchy guitar driven melody with repeated lyrics. The album moves at a fast pace and is similar to the Kooks debut album of 2006 in may ways. The lyrical content and even some of the tracks sound like the type of material the Kooks should be producing for their second album.
'Most Lonely Face' is one of my hi-lights, a slow ballad-esq rock song similar to that the Arctic Monkeys have also produced on their albums. The other standout tracks are 'Generator', 'Reinvent Myself?' and the two singles 'Generator' and 'Dancefloor'.
Certainly not the most original album you will hear this year, but still is fresh and if anything gives a very good snapshot of the current English music scene.
A very promising debut. Recommended to anyone who enjoys the current UK Indie Rock scene.
