![]() | Under the Iron Sea by Keane
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.37 We all got a bit annoyed with Keane after their debut and some will never like them, but this follow-up is a vast improvement. Much greater longevity than 'Hopes And Fears'.

![]() | Collected - The Best Of Massive Attack by Massive Attack
Buy new: £4.97 / Used from: £3.10 It is impossible to sum up the life of a band like Massive Attack on one CD, but 'Collected' is a good effort. Nevertheless, if you have the money, buy all the studio albums instead!
![]() | Eyes Open by Snow Patrol
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.99 A much more melodic and, dare I say it, better album than 'Final Straw'. Most of the UK music press have dismissed but don't believe the negative hype - this is one of 2006's best so far.
![]() | The Roads Don't Love You by Gemma Hayes
Buy new: £4.47 / Used from: £2.25 I won't lie, this is basically easy-listening. Gemma Hayes will never be a brilliant singer-songwriter but she does craft pleasent albums and has a beautiful, unique voice.
![]() | Happenstance by Rachael Yamagata
Buy new: £10.25 / Used from: £7.69 Wonderful. One of the most confident and self-assured debuts I've ever heard. This should be hugely famous - barely a bad track on the album. Rachel Yamagata is brilliant.
![]() | Veneer by Jose Gonzalez
Buy new: £6.97 / Used from: £3.71 Yep, even the emo kids bought this for 'Heartbeats'. It's a nice enough album but I'm just including it to make a point - there are many superior acoustic albums to this! Look at the rest of this list
![]() | Separate Ways by Teddy Thompson
Buy new: £5.69 / Used from: £5.95 And by a huge coincidence, here's one of them! Being the son of folk legends Richard and Linda, it's no surprise Teddy's second album is as good as it is.
![]() | On Every Street by Dire Straits
Buy new: £3.48 / Used from: £0.75 Obviously nothing compared to 'Brothers In Arms', etc., but any Knopfler's better than no Knopfler!
![]() | Not Alone by Julia Biel
Buy new: £12.99 / Used from: £3.49 Scandalously unknown jazz/soul singer with a fantastic backing band, including possibly the UK's best drummer, who you may know from Acoustic Ladyland.
![]() | Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.70 One of the best mainstream new rock bands to emerge for a long time. The Arctics are absolutely brilliant lyricists - the first band to truly capture the spirit of the noughties on record.
![]() | Comfort of Strangers by Beth Orton
Buy new: £7.96 / Used from: £2.75 Good to see Beth go back to her acoustic roots. This is her best album for awhile.
![]() | Einaudi: Le Onde
Buy new: £7.82 / Used from: £7.95 The pretentious classical lot don't like this. They say it's 'simplistic' and 'minimalist'...But sod 'em. It's beautiful, that's all you need to know. Worth the price for the title track alone.
![]() | Eye to the Telescope by KT Tunstall
Buy new: £2.32 / Used from: £1.25 One of the few artists with genuine crossover ability. Appeals to almost everyone - fans of pop, rock, and singer-songwriter music.
![]() | The Life Pursuit by Belle & Sebastian
Buy new: £6.44 / Used from: £6.04 Legendary band. And very consistent. Their newest album doesn't disappoint.
![]() | Catching Tales by Jamie Cullum
Buy new: £1.24 / Used from: £1.27 Not a bad album but nothing compared to 'Twentysomething'. Nothing special.
![]() | Speak for Yourself by Imogen Heap
Buy used from: £6.35 Impressive album. Possibly a bit too California-fied for an Essex girl but the fact that the album is so technologically complex is made even more impressive when you know that she alone produced it.
![]() | Magpie by Stephen Fretwell
Buy new: £3.29 / Used from: £2.70 Gorgeous. One of the best singer-songwriters to emerge for ages. Pure acoustic goodness.
![]() | Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 by The Prodigy
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £4.39 For the corrupt, rebellious bit in all of us.
![]() | Hitstory [Deluxe Edition] by Elvis Presley
Buy used from: £10.50 Easily the most comprehensive Elvis collection there is. 90 songs on 3 CDs. He was really a very good artist who[se writers] did a lot for music - shame he's not really remebered for that.
![]() | Life in Slow Motion by David Gray
Buy new: £2.97 / Used from: £0.58 Another unfairly treated songwriter. This is a HUGE improvement on 'A New Day At Midnight'. Has some cracking tracks on.
![]() | Your Big Day by John Egdell
Buy new: £7.10 / Used from: £3.84 One of music's best kept secrets! The sweetest, most beautiful record released last year, I reckon. Contains 16 songs and lasts for little over 30 minutes, but that compliments the album wonderfully.
![]() | Jimmy Eat World / Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World
Buy new: £8.47 / Used from: £1.99 Sooo much better than your standard 'Emo' band (God, I hate that word). This is real emotion and real talent.
![]() | Trouble by Ray LaMontagne
Buy new: £9.67 / Used from: £7.59 Grrr. Bought this album about 18 months ago and now he's huge! Hate it when that happens! Anyway, this is the best country-tinged album around.
![]() | Over Fly Over by Kathryn Williams
Buy new: £9.48 / Used from: £4.99 Probably her worst album but still better than 90% of what's in the charts. Buy everything she has released!
![]() | Martha Wainwright: Special Edition by Martha Wainwright
Buy new: £5.98 / Used from: £9.79 Excellent debut album. Folk-pop at its finest. Gets very miserable in places, but that's how I like it!
