How not to make a book about costumes
Do not buy this book if you intend to create the costumes or want to learn the history of clothing.
The book offers little insight into the costumes or how to make them, and the patterns are awful.

for beginners
the book i ve purchased looks very promising from the outside.but once inside, one can find a lot of information regarding medieval costumes and life style, whilst littler info is dedicated to other ages. especially when the book goes about from the empire era up to 1880, without hardly any draft of the patterns of the period. there are circa 14 patterns from the medieval period,4 from the tudor, 4 from elizabethan era, 5 from charles II, 8 from the 18th c, 7 from the 19th c.
i think one should be able to tell what ages are specifically considered from the cover, and the fact that you cant use the take a look inside tool before you buy it, makes it even more mysterious but at the same time doubtfull. the price is fair, compared to the quality but i expected it to be somewhat larger than the half size 4 i got. if you want to draft the patterns you have to make a grill on top of the drawing and then resize it on larger scale. it is good though that they put a long list of other costume books for whoever wants to try something a little harder and brave.

Historic Costumes
Good information, old-fashioned presentation. You need to be determined and fairly experienced to embark on these projects. For example, patterns are shown 1/8th in : 1 in, so you probably need 1in sqared paper to make your pattern up. Materials lists are sketchy and out of date so acess to a good fabric shop / haberdashery that can offer information is key.
