Scott Schuman just wanted to take photographs of people on the street who looked great. His now famous blog ['the bellwether American site that turned photo blogging into an art form'New York Times] was an attempt to showcase the wonderful and varied sartorial tastes of real people – not only those of the fashion industry. The book is a beautiful anthology of Scott's favourite shots from around the world. They include photographs of well-known fashion figures as well as those shots of the anonymous passerby whose imagination and taste delight the viewer. From the streets of Rio to Bejing, Stockholm to Milan, these are the people that have inspired Scott and in turn, inspired designers and people of all ages, wages and nationalities with an interest in fashion. Intimately designed and created with Scott, the book is a handsome object in its own right, in full colour on hand-picked, quality paper.

'Everybody loves being photographed by Scott Schuman. If he spots you in the crowd, whether in New York or Paris or Milan, it's a kind of validation. And everybody likes to see who he has photographed for The Sartorialist, because it's proof of his critical eye.'

'During all the fashion weeks I am approached by many photographers, Scott is the only one who can ask me to cross the street for a better lighting and I do it! I love his portraits.'
Customer Reviews
A handsome, elegant, beautiful book
The Sartorialist brings together the fashion and photography of Scott Schuman in a book as handsome and elegant as the old Milanese men he so admires. What I love about Schuman's photography is the personality. Undoubtedly, everybody in this book looks great, but no one looks the same. In his photographs he captures not just the beautifully tailored suits, the just-so chinos and the dresses (summer, cocktail and otherwise), but also the greying hair, the coy smile or the nonchalant stare, all the idiosyncrasies that make his subjects so appealing to look at. And look you do - as just like his sartorially exquisite subjects - you can't take you eyes off this book.
a must for the many readers of the original blog
It's brilliant. If you like the photos on the blog, this is a great chance to get to pore over them in close up. I guess more commentary might be good but there's a lot of thought provoking shots in here. Lovely.
fantastic inspiration
Scott's pictures of people on the street across the world are beautiful. The photos chosen for this book are within the best ones he has made..and if you do not know what to wear in a morning, just flick through the pages of this book and I am sure that it will inspire you !
