Synopsis
"Rachel's Holiday", Marian's classic novel about addiction, is being given a new lease of life with a fantastic new jacket treatment. Here's Rachel Walsh, twenty-seven and the miserable owner of size 8 feet. She has regular congress with Luke Costello, a man who wears his leather trousers tight. And she's fond - some might say too fond - of recreational drugs. Until she finds herself being frogmarched to the Cloisters - Dublin's answer to the Betty Ford Clinic. She's outraged. Surely she's not thin enough to be an addict? Heartsick and Luke-sick, she seeks redemption in the shape of Chris, a Man with a Past. A man who might be more trouble than he's worth.
Customer Reviews
Repetitive and sloooooooooooooooooooow.
This is the first Marian Keyes book I have read and picked it due to the great reviews. I didn't find the book as enjoyable as a lot of people.
The story was slow to develop and rather repetitive. I don't think it needed the 500 pages plus and could have been told in half that. There are a few dozen characters, many of whom were potentially interesting but were not developed so you never really got to understand anyone except the protagonist, Rachel.
I thought the story was completely predictable and at times I was completely frustrated by the lack of action/plot. I thought the writing was humorous in places but mostly in the Christmas cracker joke/grimace way than laugh out loud.
I'm not sure I would read another book by the same author.
Brilliant, fantastic, wonderful, funny, interesting and very realistic. !!!
I cannot tell how much I enjoyed this book, I have forced many people to read it as a self - help book as it makes a lot of sense and says all the right things, the main character "Rachel" is the best of all Keyes books, perhapes that is because there is a lot of Marian's own experience written into the story, it made me laugh and it made me think about how completely unaware we can all be about what we are doing and the consequences of our own actions, I read this book in 2 days, it would have been quicker if I had been able to take the day off work to read it which I did think about doing as I loved this book soooooooooooo much right from the first couple of pages .
My fave book
I agree this is inspirational. I laughed out loud through the chapters and cried too. I also was at a difficult point in life and this helped me through it, it's a book that highlights the humour in even the most unpleasant situations. I've read this about 7 times and if ever I feel a bit low, I pick it up......
Thank you Marion.
