A Fantastic Book
Michelle Magorian is an author who inspires and encourages the reader throughout all of her books. A Little Love Song is the best of her novels, inviting young girls to enter the teenage world of new feelings and new experiences. If you have never read a Michelle Magorian book before be sure to read this first. Rose's story will remain with you forever, well into your adult life.
Highly recommended
I have just read this book for what must be about the tenth time now, yet again on a dark and wet Sunday afternoon, yet again in a single sitting. I can never put it down once I've picked it up. I recently turned 18, just like Rose does in the book, and I associate with her 'coming of age' love story more now than I ever have.
I googled Michelle Magorian to try and find some more info and reviews on this book and was shocked to find how little there was out there, which can only lead me to think it was seriously overlooked when it was published.
This is probably because of the outstanding success of 'Goodnight Mr. Tom' her first novel, which is aimed at younger readers; 'A Little Love Song' is more mature and, in comaparison to 'GMT', deals with more 'grown-up issues'.
You can read a synopsis of the plot so I won't bore anyone by repeating details. What I will say is that it's beautifully written, all characters (but particularly Rose and Alec) are deftly drawn, and despite some other people on here saying events are predictable, I certainly had not guessed the book's final surprise, and was hugely satisfied with the conclusion.
One of my favourite books of all time. Highly recommended.
A little love song
This book is brilliant but is probably aimed at a higher age than myself. It is about 2 girls first serious relationships and also you hear about Mad Hilda's life a lady who had lived there a few years before. A moving story about girls and their problems with love! A great read for older teens.
