Rather than a slower paced survival horror, this is an on-the-rails lightgun style adventure. That means your character moves automatically as you aim and shoot at the screen with the Wii remote. There's much more to the gameplay than other similar games though, with the ability to choose multiple different paths and solve challenging in-game puzzles.
The action and atmosphere is still as intense as ever too, as you're forced to dismember the necromorph in order to ensure they stay (un)dead. It's not the sort of game you usually see on the Wii, but that could all change once gamers get their hands on this all-action thriller.
Key Features- Ground zero: The only official prequel to the smash hit survival horror - find out what happened before the events of the original game and the animated movie.
- Off-the-rails: Longer, deeper and more involved than any other lightgun game, with multiple routes to choose from and unique environmental puzzles to solve.
- Twist and shoot: Use new and familiar weapons such as the plasma cutter, ripper and line gun, now with more accurate motion-sensitive controls.
- Graphic violence: Stunning graphics and award-winning sound design live up to the standards of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game.
- Safety in numbers: Drop-in/drop-out co-operative play allows a friend to join or leave the action at any time.
EA Redwood Shores used to be just another Electronic Arts studio, making games like The Godfather and The Simpsons. Then they were given free rein to work on original projects such as Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. EA were so impressed they even let them change their name..

Best Wii game of the Year so far for us!!
Absolutely amazing game. Recently completed this with a freind in co op mode and we really enjoyed it. The graphics are amazing for Wii, the music and effects too - overall production throughout is top notch. A big thing usually is controls, and they work effortlessly. In response to the review about bugs, well we didn't come across any at all, and it didn't crash once. Though I have had some games that have done that. Also, it is an on rail shooter, so it is a little unfair to mark it down if you just don't get the on rail thing.
But all in all, this is a game that will stay on the shelf for us. It was engaging, fun and a blast to play. The game starts off more with a story and paces it self so, and gradually ramps up the action along with story twists and new weapons - which have alternate firing mechanisms. The only thing I would recommend is setting the difficulty to Hard. The only thing I could gripe really is the difficulty at times even on Hard. This is probably down to how much of a gamer you are, but it may be a little easy at times to accomplished ones. But saying that, it does have some parts that are generally tough and ones that you have to go through a few times.
In relation to replay value. Having completed the game, you can play ten stages in which you just blast through hordes of enemies. This was better than we expected, and there is a high score to beat. Each lasts ten to fifteen minutes. We are also going through the game again on Impossible mode, and it actually gets better this time round, as it tests you more and getting through is more of a close call each time.
I hope this sells well, as we love this game, and hope there are more mature titles to come on the Wii.
Outstanding Railshooter
I have'em all: Ghost Squad, both House of Deads, Umbrella Chronicles, Links Crossbow and Medal of Honor:H2 with his Zappermode. They all are fun, some are gory, but overall they have the same type of gameplay.
Now comes Dead Space. It's different in many ways: first the storytelling. Many cinematic sequences, a really huge plot with many twists and scary moments, shown with one of the most spectacular grafics ever seen on the Wii. Second, and thats the big point: gameplay. Shooting monsters in little pieces is very different to the other Railers. Its way more a game than the others, even with the huge ammount of movie sequences.
Important for Hardcoregamers: Don't play this game on the "Normal"-difficulty. Start from the very beginning on "Hard". I reached Level 6 now and I just died four times in the whole game.
Fantastic Wii-game! I want more Railers like this!
A good railshooter with survival horror thrown in!
As indicated in the review title this is a very good rail shooter, with some interesting aspects of the survival horror genre thrown in. Having just played it through twice I would say it's good fun and worth the purchase price.
I would recomend it to anyone who enjoys either game style but esp those who like First Person Shooters. It is fun to play on "Hard" and "Expert" difficulty, but "Normal" is a beginner level so avoid it unless you are new to shooters. With an easy introduction in the first two stages, things really get interesting from there on in and the last half of the game is challenging without being impossible. (i.e. you do not get slaughtered every five mins, neither is it a walkover. you do find yourself thinking "I won't make it if I find another monster before a power up!")
It does have an involving story which did get me hooked. It is fun and there is a reasonable level of suspense. However, dont buy it if you do like to roam around levels- it is a rail shooter after all.
