VGA
When I was deciding on which VGA cable to get to run an Xbox 360 console through a PC monitor, I looked at dozens of different ones from many different manufacturers. This was by far the best cable out there, and when you can buy it for £5, as opposed to the £20+ that Microsoft are charging for the EXACTLY the same "official" cable, it's an absolute bargain.
The cable gives you a high definition picture on a plasma television or PC monitor (both old and new monitors). It has gold connections - meaning it has a much criper transfer, and the screen quality is absolutely superb. I've seen the 360 run on a full HD, 40" telvision, through HDMI, and there is absolutely no difference in quality. If anything, this cable on the monitor looked better because it had smoother edges. The colour depth is what you would expect from a high-definition transfer, and it also comes with two audio sockets so that you can plug your computer speakers in.
It all works really well, and it's by far the easiest thing I've ever had to set up in my life. I plugged it into my monitor, into the Xbox 360, and turned on the console. It came up instantaneously with the screen setting up on the screen. All you have to do then is put in your monitor's resolution from the drop down menu that pops up on screen. Bare in mind the HD setting you can set your 360 at through a monitor depends on your resolution. Monitor's that run at 1280 x 1024, 1440 x 900, 1360 x 768, etc, your average monitor basically, will run at 720p definition. Any resolution above 1600 x 1200 will run at 1080p. To be honest, the difference between the two is minimal unless your running it on a HD television so it's no problem at all.
Just two things to bare in mind. One, if your monitor is not a widescreen monitor you may get the 'stretch' effect. The screen won't fit onto your screen meaning it will be all squashed together and look horrible. And the other problem i came across was that when running the cable on 1280 x 1024 resolution there was a shimmering effect on the screen with ghosting coming from the writing. This was easily rid by changing the resolution to the next setting (in this case 1360 x 768). This does NOT affect your picture quality at all, the two settings are basically the same.
Hope this was of help.
4Gamers VGA HD AV Cable
I bought this product a month ago and it hasn't let me down. In fact I opt to use my PC Monitor instead of my Dad's widescreen tv to play my XBOX 360.
The definition is fantastic, near HD and at a considerable fraction of the price.
The only downside is I had to buy a VGA Female to Female Adapter so i could use it. Other than that brilliant product.
Slightly disappointed
I bought this cable as the other reviews said it provided a high-quality picture, and its half the price of the official one. While it does provide a nice crisp picture, I can't help but be bothered by the slight ghosting I encountered. Its minor; however it becomes quite noticeable when you have black text on a white background, like in the Penny Arcade games. This might just be me, but I did have it plugged directly into my monitor's VGA port, so I can't really find a fault except for the cable itself. Having said that, I would still recommend it as an alternative to the official one, as in other games like Geometry Wars, it's barely noticeable at all.
